SaddleBrooke Democratic Club Minutes
September 13, 2008
The meeting of the SaddleBrooke Democratic Club was called to order by Chair Elizabeth Hess at
Approval of June Minutes: It was M/S/C to approve the minutes as presented.
Treasurer’s Report: Mark Griffith reported our bank balance. He also stated we are up to date with campaign finance reports. M/S/C to approve the Treasurer’s Report.
New Business: Elizabeth reported that additional support is needed to oppose Proposition 102 (anti same sex marriage) and Proposition 200 (payday lender regulation).
Proposition 102 is a proposed AMENDMENT TO THE STATE CONSTITUTION, as follows:
She stated the proposition is an attempt to forbid any definition of marriage other than between a man and a woman. Since the rights conferred on persons in a marriage are civil in nature, limiting who can be married denies persons who are not allowed to marry because they wish to marry a person of the same sex, the property and other rights. This is a federal constitutional violation.
RESOLVED, that the SaddleBrooke Democratic Club hereby endorses a vote of NO on
Proposition 102. M/S/C.
Proposition 200, she reported, is an attempt to obfuscate the intent of the proposition. Its definition includes “…to remove sunset provisions and PERPETUATE USURY IN

Elizabeth also announced that a Social Committee Chair is needed. Further, the terms of the current slate of officers of the Club expire soon. Nominations for officers are needed. Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and Program Chair.
Upcoming Events: Stephanie announced a Volunteer Day Saturday, September 20 at Griffith’s home for telephone calling and stuffing mailers. 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Also on Wednesday September 24 in the Coyote Room of the SB 1 clubhouse, the Club will host an evening for discussion and explanation of the four proposed State of Arizona Constitutional amendments and the four State initiatives. Present to answer questions: County Attorney Jim Walsh, Sheriff Chris Velasquez, LD 26 candidates, and a judge.
Homes are needed for the October, November and December potlucks. A Victory Party is scheduled for November 4, 2008.

Joe spoke about the Pinal County candidates.
LD 26 Announcements
Carolyn Badger spoke briefly on the progress of the LD 26 volunteers. She distributed an exciting report on recent activity.
